12 Steps to Better Health
Have you promised yourself some healthy changes for the New Year,
but do not know where to start? Often we find that once we set goals, we are
not sure what to do next.
We reach nutrition goals by practicing several steps, or skills.
Think about a hobby that you enjoy. Maybe you golf, or sew, or play an
instrument. Now think about the different skills you had to learn to do that
hobby. Take golf, for example. It seems simple. You swing the club. You hit
the ball. You get it into the hole. We get the general idea, but few of us can
play golf like Tiger Woods.
We learn the skills needed to do a hobby one, or two, at a time.
If you golf, you first learned how to hold the club, how to swing the club, how
to hit the ball, etc.
Healthy eating is just the same. You get the basic idea. You
choose variety. You cook healthfully. You watch portions. Now you can learn
and practice some skills to help you do these things well and keep you out of
the sand traps and the water hazards.
The 12 Steps to Better Health program gives you one skill to
focus on per month. If you practice one skill for 30 days, it will become a
habit. Each monthly step will help you make a healthy habit change in your
life. We will also add a weekly recipe or tip to match the month’s step.
So pick a skill and practice it every day for the month. Check
in weekly for new tips and recipes. Before you know it you will have formed a
new healthy habit with little effort!
