Choose Restaurants that offer healthy options!
Did you know that six out of 10
adults and one out of four children are obese in Escambia County? Select local
restaurant owners have stepped up to the plate to provide sensible solutions to
the increasing obesity rate in Escambia County. The Escambia County Health
Department invites families to step up to the plate by choosing restaurants who
offer healthy choice options.
Healthy Choices Restaurants
offer at least three of the five following healthy choice options:
- Take Half Home - Request
to be served only half your entree and have the remainder automatically
boxed to avoid oversized portions.
- Offer Healthy Substitutions
- Substitute side items of vegetables or fruit for french fries.
- Cook to Order - Select
grilled foods instead of fried, or seasoned instead of sauced or buttered.
- Complimentary Items -
Decline pre-meal items such as bread or chips.
- Review Nutritional Information
- Inform yourself and choose healthier meals by learning what they contain
before you order.
You can identify a Healthy
Choices Restaurant by the Healthy Choices Restaurant logo displayed at the
entrance of each participating restaurant. After you dine, please revisit this
