and contact information for physical activity programs, nutrition education and
parenting classes in Escambia County. The physical activity lists 25 types of
programs from baseball and gymnastics youth programs to local parks with walking
and running trails.

Escambia CHD Worksite Wellness
Program Pedometer Program
-
The Pedometer Program is
an internal pilot program for volunteer employees
wishing to make a change in their personal fitness levels. The program requires
the participants to monitor their activity levels by recording daily pedometer
steps. It will be studied for a year with the intent for development into a
community wellness program that will be offered to the public. So far, there
are over 150 employees involved and the step count for the Escambia County
Health department is over 32 million.

Department “I Quit for you Baby” Smoking Cessation Program
Escambia County Health Department offers a
seven (7) week “I Quit for You Baby” clinic to help pregnant or parenting women
and their partners kick the habit. You can do a good thing for you and your
baby/children while earning great rewards (Manicures, Pedicures and a $50 Gift
Card when you quit). The program is supported by the March of Dimes and the
American Lung Association.
Classes are offered on Tuesdays
from 5:30pm-7:00pm.

Freedom from Smoking
Sacred Heart Health Systems offers a stop
smoking clinic to help kick the nicotine addiction. It is a seven (7) week
course and is endorsed by the American Lung Association. One on one sessions are
also available.

Navy Hospital Freedom from
Smoking
Navy hospital offers a Freedom from
Smoking class to help you stop smoking. The class is open to active duty and
retired military and their dependents. Smoking quit aides like patches are
provided free of charge as needed. Offered every six (6) weeks with afternoon
and evening classes.

Kids in the Kitchen Program
-
The Kids in the Kitchen Program is a partnership
between the Junior League of Pensacola and the Escambia County Health
Department which aims to educate children in after school programs about
healthy nutrition and the importance of daily exercise. This program is
a nutrition initiative designed to help our communities address the
urgent issues of childhood obesity and poor nutrition. It also shows
children the strategies that can be taken to combat obesity, and also
teaches them how to make healthy food choices and prepare nutritious
snacks.
