Petroleum Tanks

The Petroleum Tank Inspection Program is designed to protect the public from risks associated with petroleum tanks.  Our main objective is to protect the drinking water aquifer and surface water bodies in the State of Florida.  This program was initiated through an agreement with the Department of Environmental ProtectionThis link open into a new window

We perform required annual fuel tank inspections on 1339 sites contracted to us by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.  These sites include 7 Military Bases throughout Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa, Walton and Bay Counties.

Inspection criteria include (but are not limited to):

  • Annual Testing Records
  • Closure assessment for tank removals in all 5 counties
  • Environmental Releases
  • Installation and all existing upgrades
  • Inventory Records
  • Leakage Inspections and detection devices
  • Maintenance Records

Facilities Inspected include (but are not limited to):

  • Bulk Fuel Tank Storage Facilities
  • Commercial Fuel Outlets
  • Generator Facilities
  • Industrial Facilities
  • Lube and Oil Changing Facilities
  • Marinas
  • Military Bases

The State of Florida conducts more fuel tank compliance inspections than any other state in the United States.  By December 31, 2009, there will no longer be single walled UST (Underground Storage Tanks) operating in the State of Florida; all will be required to have secondary containment or double walls.  Facilities remaining out of compliance can be brought into enforcement through Florida Administrative Code 62-761This link open into a new window and Florida Administrative Code 62-762This link open into a new window.
