Petroleum Tanks
The Petroleum Tank
Inspection Program is designed to protect the public from risks associated with
petroleum tanks.
Our main objective is to protect the
drinking water aquifer and surface water bodies in the State of Florida. This
program was initiated through an agreement with the
Department of Environmental Protection .
We
perform required annual fuel tank inspections on 1339 sites contracted to us by
the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. These sites include 7
Military Bases throughout Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa, Walton and Bay
Counties.
Inspection criteria include (but are not limited to):

Closure assessment for tank removals in all 5 counties

Installation and all existing upgrades

Leakage Inspections and detection devices

Maintenance Records

Bulk Fuel Tank Storage Facilities

Lube and Oil Changing Facilities

Military Bases
The State of Florida conducts more
fuel tank compliance inspections than any other state in the United States.
By December 31, 2009, there will no longer be single walled UST
(Underground Storage Tanks) operating in the State of Florida; all will be
required to have secondary containment or double walls. Facilities remaining out of compliance can be brought into enforcement
through
Florida Administrative Code 62-761
and
Florida Administrative Code 62-762 .
