Health Nursing Division

The mission of
Community Health Nursing is to promote and protect the health of the
citizens of Escambia County through public health services and
community collaboration. Community Health Nursing has formed
creative partnerships within the community to assess community
health needs and to deliver much needed services. Community Health
Services include Epidemiology and Disease Surveillance, HIV/AIDS
services, and Healthy Start.

This program helps pregnant women access prenatal care, apply for
Medicaid assistance and WIC (Women’s, Infant’s, and Children Nutrition
Program) certification. The program provides initial screening for
potential problems/risks and provides educational information to promote
healthy behaviors during pregnancy

MomCare is Medicaid health insurance for
pregnant women. It will pay for prenatal care and other health services. A
Maternity Care Advisor is assigned to each participant. The Advisor is available
by telephone to provide information and advice. The Advisor helps the
participant:

Find a doctor and making an appointment

Enroll in the WIC (Women’s, Infant’s and Children Nutrition
Program)

Enroll in Healthy Start
-
Register for other prenatal services such as, childbirth
classes, counseling, and help from other agencies

Keep prenatal appointments

Choose
a pediatrician

designed to empower parents to be their child’s first and best teacher. The
program is available to parents with children age 1 to 3 and it is designed to
help parents improve parenting skills, bond with their children and help their
children learn. Services offered include:
